ARCHILAB 2000

An "Ideas Competition" will be launched in 1999, with ArchiLab 2000 in view, so that each team invited can reflect on a new definition of architectural programmes, falling outside the scope of traditional orders. In a multi-cultural international context, where specific social requirements and highly-varied economic situations exist, architects will be solicited to propose new strategies and courses.

The experimentation will principally focus on the following orientations:
- technologies and an extended understanding of territorial notions;
- a contextual definition of architectural programmes;
- the taking into account of emergency architecture;
- the notion of interventionist architecture linked to the new programme definitions;
- a reflection on redefining the description of urban and non-urban areas at global level (village and megalopolis).

An Ideas Competition providing an outline for several possible programmes and projects will lead to the presentation of some sixty projects, some of which will result in concrete realisations commissioned by the City of Orléans in the year 2000.
