(SP) With their offices in Madrid, Iñaki Ábalos and Juan Herreros have been working together since 1984. They have been teaching in Madrid since 1988, and running the Liga Multimedia Internacional (LMI) since 1992. They keep a watchful eye on contemporary architectural work, and pay special heed to research projects involving housing. Their varied activities include writing, praxis and teaching, and they have been invited to teach, in particular, at the Architectural Association School in London and at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale in Lausanne. In 1997 they published ExitLMI, documentos de arquitectura. Set in the Alcornocales nature reserve in southern Spain, the Moorish House experiments with the organizational possibilities of a contemporary household space, outside standard open-plan models, and outside the traditional model with its configuration of corridors and rooms. The arrangement is based on an additive system of parallel strips bringing together outside and inside rooms of comparable size, thus forming a rectangular grid. The whole structure forms a kind of maze in which a collection of objects--furniture, artworks, plants--defines the character and use of each room.
