The AllesWirdGut agency, founded in Vienna in 1999, works on projects of varying scale,--from urban planning strategies, to interior design. They don't own up to any clearly defined, formal approach, seeing themselves as pragmatic, and finding the content of their projects in the potential inherent to each and every situation. Their current work in progress includes : a town hall, an individual home, an industrial building, and the interior design of a chain of shops, using a multi-purpose architectural method. The "TurnOn Prototype", inspired by the automobile industry, which has managed to develop forward looking models, unlike architecture which is always grappling with the same parameters, is a new experimental lifestyle : a series of modules, as in a giant hamster wheel, incorporates all the live-in programmes, without any distinction between wall, floor and ceiling. There is no longer just a single transitional space in a one-off moment. The interior space can be constantly altered to suit the activity chosen for it : reading, sleeping, cooking, etc. "Design your own home!" invites people to look through a catalogue offering an endless number of different rings which enable people to choose their favourite models and combine them in the order they like. Desire and functionality have finally merged here. |
