(F/PORT) | Commuting between Lisbon and Paris, Didier Faustino develops the multi-facetted activities of an architect, artist and magazine editor. Performances, videos challenging the relationship of the body to space, exhibitions and texts are all combined in his architectural research. As a co-founder of the LAPS (Laboratory of Performance Architecture and Sabotages) in 1996, and of the Fauteuil Vert agency, in Paris, in 1997, he has also been running the Portuguese aesthetics magazine NumeroMagazine since 1998. At the last Venice Architectural Biennale, he exhibited a suitcase designed for transporting an illegal immigrant by air ("Body in transit"), its form moulded and clinging to the folded body, made specially for this function. Faustino produced a critical project, stigmatizing the forced nomadism of whole groups of people, condemned to exile, and "sharpening our awareness of reality". Housing is this too. For Archilab, Didier Faustino is showing a new prototype, designed as the extension of a typical home, which changes as different residents pass through it, by changing the position of a chair with sharp legs. |
