(F/Sénégal) Ibrahima N'Doye graduated from the Paris-Villemin School of Architecture, in 1999, and lives in Paris, where he is involved in graduate studies in architectural theory. Spotted during a EuropanDOM 1 competition, this young Franco-Senegalese architect is currently working on several projects in the metropolitan area of Dakar: urban redevelopment of the commune of Yoff (construction of a market and renovation of public places), and construction of private homes (Seck 1 House, Seck 2 House). The architecture of these houses stems from a rigorous project-oriented approach combining mimetism and differentiation (categories pointing to Ibrahima N'Doye's cultural duality). The at once physical, social and cultural context in which his projects are incorporated is systematically examined, in order to bring out the local, spatial and domestic paradigms. Once identified, these arrangements are included in a project logic within which they are at once transgressed and updated--a logic which is akin to a proper process of abstraction. The resulting objects, which are at once alien and familiar, open the way to a possible habitat.
