Michele Saee is an experienced builder who trained with Morphosis before setting up his own agency in Los Angeles, in 1985. His architecture, which is invariably unstable and almost in an unfinished state, comes across as an assemblage of floating, sculptural forms, and materials interacting with light, always connected with the outside world. It is divided up into successive envelopes which stand out on undulating surfaces like the different parts of an item of clothing covering a composite and moving body. All Michele Saee's architecture brings on a crisis of established identities, be it the identity of the notion of form, the notion of plane and surface, the notion of inhabiting, as well as of the closed identity of project, construction methods, and engineering. This architecture replaces these issues of identity with a temporal dimension which sets it up as an "authority" striving to define an architecture which refuses to be the application of an order or model. |
