Trained at the Architectural Association (1966-71) and at Cambridge University (1971-75), where he obtained his PhD (A Theoretical Framework for the Incorporation of Ecological Considerations in the Design Environment 1981), Ken Yeang, who is of Malaysian origin, is one of the main forerunners of bio-climatic architecture. For the past 25 years, from an at once theoretical and practical angle, he has been developing a thoroughly ecological expertise in the architecture of very large buildings (which are nevertheless regarded as the most harmful to the environment). As a partner in T.R. Hamzah & Yeang, which was founded in Kuala Lumpur in 1976, he has designed and built, together with his colleague Hamzah, of the AA School, a very large number of colossal edifices, including his famous "green skyscrapers". Incorporated in the dynamics of nature (sun, wind, climate, etc.), and economical in terms of matter and energy, these giants have proven their viability in both ecological and economic terms, and are winning over more than a few developers: Yeang is currently building the National Library in Singapore, a shopping mall in Stuttgart, and an apartment tower in London ("Elephant & Castle Project").
