After the special presentation of the Centre Regional Contemporary Art Collection [FRAC Centre] architecture collection, also included in the "20 Years of FRACs" event, Archilab 2004 is introducing the move from an annual to a biennial conference.
The organization of the exhibition is duly changing shape. Henceforth there will be an artistic management board and a different invited curator for each event.
This year the artistic management of Archilab is in the hands of Marie-Ange Brayer, director of the FRAC, because of the close links between Archilab and the FRAC Centre.

The curator is Bart Lootsma, an internationally renowned, Vienna-based Dutch critic, teacher, exhibition curator, and author of many publications.
This year, in order to better coincide with the new university academic year, and involve architecture schools in these professional events as an interface between the new generation and young architecture, as well as incorporating the "Vivre les Villes" operation of the French Ministry of Culture and Communications, the conference and exhibition will be opened in mid-October.

Exhibition
In a venue of some 1500 sq.m/16,000 sq.ft, on the Site des Subsistances, the works of some thirty architects, belonging to a generation now emerging at an international level, will be exhibited.
The selection of projects made by Bart Lootsma will challenge and question the urban dimension in the approaches of these young architects. The exhibition will consist of different sections: urbanistic projects, installations and research in the form of maquettes, drawings, and projections. There will also be activities in the city itself during the show.

Associated events
As every year, Archilab will work with professional organizations and cultural centers.

informational tools
The public will have access to informational tools: exhibition guide, free guided tours, and so on.

Since 1999, Archilab--an event produced by the City of Orléans, in collaboration with the FRAC Centre--has been the annual rendez-vous for forward-looking architecture at an international level.
Advocating a pluralistic approach, open to every kind of innovative trend, Archilab is a place for discovering architecture in its most creative dimension.
Archilab's goal is to offer a platform for meetings between French and foreign architects, and between architects and contracting authorities.
Since its inception, this conference has enjoyed wide national and international repercussions.
