Hernan Diaz Alonso is a graduate of the
Universidad Nácional de Rosario in Argentina,
and obtained a Master’s degree from Columbia
University in New York. In 1966 he collaborated
with the Enric Miralles agency and in 2000-
2001 with the Peter Eisenman agency. In 1999,
he founded Xefirotarch in Los Angeles.
Belonging to the second generation of architects
associated with digital tools, Hernan Diaz
Alonso agency has developed more than 30
projects, be it in the area of research, private
commissions, or national and international
competitions. Let us mention the First Prize
competition for the Metro Plaza in Lexington
Kentucky, a line of tableware articles called
Objects for Mutant Manners, the competition for
U2 Studio, and the Land Mark Building in Dublin,
Ireland... Hernan Diaz Alonso has in particular
designed a cigar store called Happening, a
fashion store, Spy, and a private school, Etnade...
The agency is currently at work in Los Angeles
on Mars, an art centre-cum-hotel. His work,
which has won several prizes, has been described
in various publications, and in particular
in the book Next Generation Architecture: Folds,
Blobs & Boxes by Joseph Rosa. His work has
been shown in international exhibitions, in particular
at the Venice Biennale, San Francisco
MoMa (U2 tower prints are part of the permanent
collection) in 2004, Rotterdam and Miami
Biennals in 2003, the SCI-ARC Gallery in 2002,
where he put on a solo show, Emotional Rescue.
Hernan Diaz Alonso also has a career
as a teacher, lecturer and critic, in the USA
(SCI-ARC, Columbia University) and in South
America. He is currently co-editing a book
called SESSIONS. |
