The MVRDV Agency was created in Rotterdam
in 1991. MVRDV applies and develops diversity,
calling upon various skills and playing the interdisciplinary
card. Once the premisses of a
project are established, involving the greatest
possible number of associates and data,
the threesome systematizes its experimental
methods and turns the design process into
spatial and organizational research. The extreme
diversity of these data is transcribed in a spatial
matrix which overlays diagrams formed by
information. These research programmes have also been collected in a publication,
Farmax,
which appeared in 1998. In addition to the
projects Light Urbanismfor the Rotterdam City
Council, and WoZoCo and Silodamin
Amsterdam, MVRDV provided the groundwork
for the Dutch pavilion at the 2000 World Fair
in Hanover, as it did for a pavilion for the Niigata
Art Triennial in Japan. The agency has also
designed the Flight Forumbusiness centre
in Eindhoven and the futuristic installation
Metacity /Datatown which has been internationally
shown. MVRDV is included on the short
list for the project to renovate the Forum des
Halles in Paris in 2004, and is one of five finalists
in the competition for the Olympic Village at
the 2012 Olympic Games to be held in New York. |
